Due to the geological formations of Ohio, there are many ‘ledges’ to be found. Parks with bare sandstone walls, massive moss covered boulders, and sheer drops. I traversed many of these growing up. To me, the most beautiful part of the ledges, was the trees almost directly shaping the landscape. Roots which grew into crevices when the tree was young, then expanding to wrap around the rock and push the crack wider.
For this bronze I created many small ‘stones’ in wax. Based in form and texture on the oddly square boulders of the ledges. I then attached them together with short sections of bronze wire between each stone. Once placed in the ledges, roots will grow through the stones and wires, recapitulating the environment of the ledges
